I'm against over-designing, too, and I think the vast majority of websites are over-designed. I'm totally fine with the style of her website. It is very readable even if it looks like a website from the last century. I just hope I don't have to open it every day and check if there is a new post.

The RSS feed link is already in the navigation. To enable Disqus comments, create an account on Disqus, create a new site, and edit config.toml to set the value for disqusShortname to the "shortname" of the site.
