"I consider my programming skills to be mediocre", frankly speaking, I really do not agree with you on this point : ), I usually think I am poor at programming, but after seeing this, I feel I really should not have thought I had somehow "programmed", maybe I should just stay in the world of cellular reprogramming.
I'm not being modest, but there are things that I'm good at and things that I'm bad at. I'm bad at most programming languages. I'm only familiar with R (perhaps not: https://yihui.name/en/2017/11/matrix-indexing/ ) and I have some basic knowledge about JavaScript and web technologies. That is pretty much all I know. I think I'm very good at making use of what I know. I see many people always struggle with (blindly) learning new technologies. I rarely do this. Instead, I think more about "connecting the dots". blogdown is a good example: I know absolutely nothing about the Go language, but I don't really need to. I only need to know how to use Hugo and figure out how to integrate it in R, although Hugo is built from Go.
