Unfortunately the ranking is the one of the only few things that we can rely on, when there’s lack of information, I believe. It’s just too difficult if not impossible to check by yourself in many cases. But it could be better if the rankings are made in more responsible, objective and careful ways...

Also, even under one standard/ variable, ranking might not be the best way to differentiate candidates, we should consider the disparity between each rank. For example, No.1 is with 99% and No.2 is with 98.99%, followed by No. 3 which is only 23% (just making up an example). In such situation, instead of focusing ranking, the percentage (true value) would be more useful to reflect the true distribution...
