Eric Raymond has addressed this in a couple of posts, the last at http://esr.ibiblio.org/?p=7901. Like he does I do prefer a local time oriented to solar time for everyday affairs, but I use a system like his based on UTC for log files, etc.

This sort of distaste of time zones has been noted many times before. I recommend looking at the following links as to why just getting rid of all time zones is not really an option:

https://qntm.org/abolish ("So You Want To Abolish Time Zones")

https://qntm.org/calendar ("You advocate a ________ approach to calendar reform")

Time zone is fine, but why do we still use DST? So confused.

Actually I like daylight saving time. I go to work early and can get back when the Sun is still high, I can do yard work, or any other exercises, get sunshine for Vit D, then go to bed early after hard work and have a nice sleep.

When your little one can play outside with you, I believe Yihui will enjoy DST too.

China used to have both summer daylight saving time (1 hour forward) and winter daylight saving time (1 hour backward) around 1980 for at least 2~3 years. And now I think that winter DST was not necessary.
